NATIONAL POLKA MONTH
Happy New Year, and Happy National Polka Month! In case
youíve missed the last few newsletters Iíve sent out, the
following is a synopsis of 2016, plus a look ahead to 2017.
Looking forward to finally getting my new Mike Schneider
Band CD submitted for production hopefully next month, and
to all the Pint Size Polkas fun in store for the coming
summer. Stay tuned for details this Spring as new dates are
coming in now regularly. In the meantime, enjoy this text
copy of my Annual Newsletter, and hope to see you soon!
LOOKING Back on 2016
I would say that the year 2016, more than anything, was a
year of recovery from the previous two years. Thanks again
to you for your support during those difficult times!
In their aftermath, I was very
fortunate to put on more than 110 Pint Size Polkas programs
at libraries in 10 states this past summer, and followed
that up with my busiest Oktoberfest season to date with
nearly 50 bookings in September and October, mostly with the
Mike Schneider Band. My new van is really getting a work
out. I've put on nearly 30,000 miles since I bought it in
I also celebrated National Polka
Day on Tuesday, August 9 with the Live At Four news crew at
WISC-TV in Madison. Full disclosure, after more than 20
years as a professional polka musician, I had no idea August
9 was National Polka Day! But, we had a good time
celebrating nonetheless! You can see the clip on my
Facebook page, then scroll
down to my August postings.
LOOKING AHEAD TO 2017
Sadly, the traditional dance business has really slowed
down. Of particular note, I enjoyed nearly 20 years
performing at the Essen Haus in Madison, but at this point
am not booked there for future dates. I would like to thank
them for their many years of past business. If you'd like to
see my band back there or at any venue that supports quality
polka music, please pass the good word along Ė thank you!
While conventional venues have
faded a bit, I'm optimistic that my public and private work
during the festival and Oktoberfest seasons will continue to
grow. The outlook for Pint Size Polkas is also looking
extremely bright, with nearly 100 shows booked in ten states
on the calendar already for this coming June, July and
August. You can get more details on my summer schedule by
page here at
for band appearances.
NEW CD FORTHCOMING
"Happy Polka Day!" will be the title of my forthcoming CD.
I'm aiming to have it in to the disc manufacturer by next
month, and perhaps release it then, as well. Didnít quite
make the National Polka Month deadline, but again, Iím
hoping youíll think it was worth the wait! The new album
will feature four new original tunes, plus numerous familiar
songs that I've put my own special mark on Ė something I try
to do with each new recording. Stay tuned for samples and
release information, hopefully within the next few weeks!
